Agnes Catherine (Gross) Uelmen, 91, entered eternal life on Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mt. Calvary. She was born to Andrew and Frances (Berres) Gross on January 24, 1916, in the Town of Farmington, Washington County. Agnes grew up on the family farm and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in St. Michael; where she also attended school. At the age of 19, she left the St. Michael area and went to Milwaukee in search of employment. She was employed at the Red Star Yeast Company until her retirement in 1981.On June 20, 1942, she married Elmer J. Uelmen at the church of her childhood in St. Michael. He preceded her in death on February 18, 1998. They lived their married life in Milwaukee; except for the time Elmer spent serving his country in WW II. Agnes moved to the Villa Loretto in December of 2002.Survivors include a brother, Clarence Gross of Milwaukee, and several nieces nephews, and four special neighbors; Ted and Leona Holmes and Irene and Marilyn Eimer. A niece, Pat (Gross) McFarlin and her husband, Bill, of Milwaukee were a great help to her in Milwaukee. When moving to the Villa, she requested her nephew, LeRoy (Judy) Gross of Fond du Lac, to assist her. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, three sisters; Christina Gerrold, Eleanor Pierhoffer, and Leona Oberle, a brother, Albert Gross, five brothers-in-law; Arthur Gerrold, John Pierhoffer, Frank Oberle, Lester Uelmen, and Lawrence Uelmen, and three sisters-in-law, Lucille Gross, Mary Rose Gross, and Fern Uelmen.
Visitation for Mrs. Agnes C. Uelmen will be on Monday, July 30, 2007, from 10:30 to 11:30 am at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home Chapel in Mt. Calvary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 am at the Villa on Monday. The Rev. Elroy Pesch O.F.M. CAP will officiate. Visitation will be also held on Tuesday, July 31, 2007, from 10:30 to 11:30 am at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel, 7301 Nash Street, Milwaukee. Entombment will follow in the Garden Court Mausoleum of Holy Cross Cemetery. The family would appreciate memorials directed to the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mt. Calvary.
