Alfred T."Fritz" Mand, age 88, of Fond du Lac, died peacefully at his home with his family at his side on Sunday, January 8, 2012. He was born on December 21, 1923, a son of Peter and Elizabeth Schmitz Mand of St. Peter. Fritz graduated from St. Peter Catholic School. Later he served in the Armed Forces with Basic Training in the 101st Airborne Division in Kentucky and Radio Repair School in Ft. Mammoth, New Jersey. He also was in the Army Reserve for 5 years.Fritz married the former Esther K. Heaney on July 26, 1952 in St. Patrick Church, Fond du Lac. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2002.He was employed as a driver salesman for the Borden Co., the Omar Bakeries and the Morning Glory Dairy, retiring in 1983. After this, he worked part-time at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Fritz was a member of Holy Family Catholic Community, & the Teamsters Union.Survivors include his wife Esther of 59 years, two daughters, Catherine (Ken) Seibel of Mt.Calvary, Janet (Michael) O'Connor of Armstrong, one son, David (Diane) Mand of Fond du Lac, son-in-law, Robert (Kathy)Teofilo, Fond du Lac. Thirteen grandchildren; Trisha Teofilo, Corina (Eric) Mattson, Bridget Teofilo, all of Chicago, Bobby Teofilo, (special friend Lisa Simonsen) ,Scottsdale, AZ, Tina Teofilo, Fond du Lac, Kelly (Craig) Siebauer, Hartford, Carrie (Jake) Nitz, Van Dyne, Jennifer (Allen J.) Kraus, Elizabeth (Ryan) Achter , both of St. Cloud, Christopher (Krista) O'Connor, Mt. Calvary, Thomas Mand, Champaign, IL, Brian Mand, (fiance Bobbi Jo Will) Fond du Lac, and Ben Mand, Fond du Lac. Twelve great-grandchildren; Barron, Aubrey & Graham Achter, Liam, Murphey & Rorey O'Connor, Cami & Chase Nitz and Caleb Siebauer, Anja & Marco Mattson, Teegan Kraus.Further survivors are four sisters, Genevieve Kopplin, Watertown, WI, Marie (Wilfred) Abler, Virginia (Adolph) Schneider, all from St. Peter, three brothers; Raymond (Mary) Mand, Servie (Marie) Mand, Leo (Irene) Mand, all from Fond du Lac, sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Helen Jerdee, Fond du Lac, LouNelle Heaney, Valdosta, GA, Lyle Huth, Fond du Lac, Vincent `Tom' Heaney, Savage, MN, Barbara (Joe) Ouellette, Townsend, WI, Mary (Ron) Schaefer and Judy (Tom) Michels all from St. Cloud, WI and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.Preceded in death by his parents, one son, Robert in 1970, one daughter, Mary Terese Teofilo in 2002, sister. Florence Michels; brothers, Alois and Ambrose Mand, sisters-in-law; Agnes Mand, Lydia Mand, Dorothy Huth, Catherine 'Kay' Abler, Marilyn Heaney, brothers-in-law; Alex Michels, Emil Kopplin, Martin Heaney & Lyle Jerdee.'Fritz' enjoyed the outdoors, especially his Father's Day weekend at the cottage near Townsend, visiting with neighbors & friends. His love for family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends, fulfilled his life.
Visitation: Wednesday, January 11, 2012, from 3 p.m. to 7 PM and again from 9 to 9:45 AM on Thursday at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday January 12, 2012 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, W3698 Cty Rd. WH in St. Peter, WI. Reverend Edward Sippel will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Fritz's name. The family extends special thank you to the doctors, nurses & staff at Heartland Hospice for their care & support for Fritz.
