Alice M. Steindorf

Alice M. Steindorf, 89 of Brownsville died January 9, 2008 at Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center in West Bend following a short illness. She was born April 9, 1918 in New Holstein to Francis and Mary (Ott) Kraemer. She graduated from Stockbridge High School in 1936 and attended Fountain City Business College in Fond du Lac, studying to become a bookkeeper and stenographer. She was employed by Galloway West and the Brownsville Canning Factory before becoming a wife and mother. On September 22, 1943, she married Harlan E. Steindorf at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Stockbridge. He preceded her in death on January 8, 1996. On April 29, 1954 she became a mother to daughter Gayle. She was admired by many a friend and neighbor for her expert skills with a needle and thread, and was a noted fan of Lawrence Welk and former president Bill Clinton. Not one to expect the finer things in life for herself, her loved ones always came first. She enjoyed her small town lifestyle, feeding the neighborhood squirrels and being friendly with everyone in town.She leaves behind a daughter Gayle and son-in-law Russell Zwieg of West Bend, granddaughter Natalie (Jason) Sherry of Waukesha, grandson Kyle Zwieg of Germantown (fiancee Rachel Williquette), sister Ann Schneider of Fond du Lac, and brother-in-law Edwin DeKarske of Waukesha. She is further survived by nephews Daniel (Kristine) DeKarske of Waukesha and Harold DeKarske of Oshkosh, and nieces Karen (Van) Vehrs of Appleton and Luann (Joseph) Wrzesinske of Fond du Lac as well as long-time friends Marvin and Gladys Heimerl of Brownsville and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband Harlan, her parents, her sister Gertrude DeKarske, and brother-in-law Ray Schneider.



Visitation for Mrs. Alice M. Steindorf will be on Sunday, January 13, 2008, from 2 to 5 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Avenue, Fond du Lac. Liturgy of the Word for Christian Burial services will be at 5 pm at the funeral home with Deacon Larry Hughes officiating. A private family burial service will be held on Monday, January 14, 2008, at Brownsville Cemetery. Memorials would be appreciated to the International Transplant Foundation (www.livekidneytransplant.org) to honor her granddaughter's husband, a kidney transplant recipient, or to the family.
