Allen L. "Hoppy" SearlAllen L. "Hoppy" Searl, 55, of 221 S. Second Street, Oakfield, died Wednesday, September 21, 2005, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee after a courageous battle with the complications of illness. He was born September 5, 1950, in Fond du Lac, the son of Aubrey and Lucille Morgan Searl. He was a 1969 graduate of Goodrich High School. From September 9, 1969 to September 7, 1973, he served in the United States Air Force and was discharged as a Sergeant. Prior to and after his service tour, he was employed by Summerfield Alignment Service of Fond du Lac. On February 7, 1970, he married Linda S. Foss at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. Mr. Searl was a member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakfield, and served in various capacities in the church and school, which included usher, video camera operator, and several board positions. For over 22 years, he was employed by the Village of Oakfield as the Director of Operations. His three greatest loves were his family, his God, and the Village of Oakfield, which he passionately served 24/7. He served on the Village of Oakfield Volunteer Fire Department from January 4, 1974 to March 11, 2005, where he held several command positions, including a year as Chief. "Hoppy" was one of the initial First Responders in the Oakfield Fire Department, which started in 1980. He was active in baseball, particularly the Over 30 League, of which he was a head coach and assistant coach, and the Church League. He was also an assistant coach in baseball and basketball leagues that his son's participated in. Surviving is his wife, Linda, three sons, Jeremy (Jenny) Searl of Neenah, Jamie and Jared (Special Friend, Penny Tecca) Searl, both of Oakfield, his first granddaughter, who will be born in January, a brother, Roger (Charmaine) Searl of Fond du Lac, two sisters, Karen (Lawrence) Pitts and Linda Colburn, both of Fond du Lac, an aunt, Ethel (Harry) Wightman of Fond du Lac, an uncle, Owen Searl of Ripon, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. His parents, two brothers, Milo and Richard Searl, a brother-in-law, Frank Colburn, and a sister-in-law, Christine Searl, preceded him in death.
Visitation for Mr. Allen L. "Hoppy" Searl will be on Saturday, September 24, 2005, from 10 am to 1 pm at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakfield. Funeral services will be on Saturday at 1 pm at the church. The Rev. Robert Bitter will officiate and burial will be in Estabrooks Cemetery. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is serving the family.
