Alvin B. "Al" Buehler, 89, formerly of 26 S. Kayser Street, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at St. Francis Nursing Home where he had been a resident for the past 6½ years. He was born September 15, 1914, in Medford, WI, a son of Fred and Julia Poehnelt Buehler. On August 26, 1940, he married Valora L. Auchue at St. Louis Church in Fond du Lac. Mr. Buehler was a member of Holy Family parish-St. Patrick's Church, where he was past President of the Holy Name Society and organized the St. Patrick's Usher Society. He became the first president of District 8/Milwaukee Archdiocese Council of Catholic Men and served for 5 years on the Holy Name Lecture Bureau. Al had been a Trustee and Parish Treasurer for 34 years, a commentator, song leader, and an avid supporter of Catholic education. He was instrumental in the organization of the annual St. Patrick's Festival. Formerly employed by Leath Furniture for 42 ½ years, Al retired January 27, 1980 as store manager. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served during WW II with the Naval Air Station in Glenview, IL. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #664, and Elks Lodge #57. He enjoyed bowling, yard work/landscaping, and gardening.Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Valora, three daughters: Sally (Thomas) Herre of Racine, WI, Diane (Charles) Lantry of Homewood, IL, and Paula (Larry) Herlache of Grafton, WI, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother, Albert (LaVerne) Buehler of Milwaukee, WI, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation for Mr. Alvin B. "Al" Buehler will be on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, from 9 to 11 am at St. Patrick's Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at 11 am at the church. The Rev. John Radetski of Holy Family parish will officiate and burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery.
