On February 18, 2016 Alvin J. Hess, a resident of Villa Loretto danced through the gates of Heaven. He was born on January 21, 1924 in Butler, WI, the son of Alvin and Loretta (Markow) Hess, raised since the age of two by John Marinan. He graduated from Neenah High School and served in the United States Navy as an Air Crewman during World War II. On September 25, 1948 he married Mary Boulton in Minneota, MN. She preceded him in death on December 20, 2006. He worked for Soo Line Railroad for forty-one years, until retirement on January 7, 1983 as Locomotive Foreman at the North Fond du Lac shops. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Presentation Church, Holy Family Parish, and the North Fond du Lac Businessman’s Association for many years. Alvin also owned and operated Fresh Mix Soda Co.
SURVIVORS: Four daughters, Linda (Jeff Wolff) Wendt of Van Dyne, Jackie (Charles) Gruenke of Lake Holcombe, WI, Julie (Dick) Peterson of Fond du Lac, Lisa (Mani) Cornejo of Lake Forest, CA; three sons, Don (Nancy) Hess of Wisconsin Rapids, Jim (Denise) Hess of Eden, Joe (Charlene) Hess of Fond du Lac; twenty-one grandchildren, Shawn (Pam) Wendt, Ann (Todd) Cross, Jessica (Jeremy) Saunders, Tony (Beth) Gruenke, Theresa (fiancé Jack Schnable) Gruenke, Brian (Brittany) Hess, Tim (Charys) Hess, Sam Hess, Elizabeth (James) Knighter, Lindy Hess, Joanna Hess, Judi (Dustin) Shepherd, Jimmy, Joy, Daniel, Josiah, David, Jonathon, Joshua Hess, and Ethan and Alaina Hess; fifteen great-grandchildren, two sisters, Pat Kocon of MO and Mary Mertes of CA, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary; daughter Judy in 1957; grandson Nathan Gruenke in 1978; brother John Marinan; brother-in-law Frank Kocon.
VISITATION: Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 11:00 A.M. until 12:45 P.M. at Presentation Church, 705 Michigan Ave, North Fond du Lac, WI, 54937. FUNERAL: Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Presentation Church. Cremation has taken place.
The family thanks the Villa staff and Sister-Servants of Christ the King for holding Alvin in their tender arms.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
