Alvin R. Feuerhammer, 100, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Grancare Nursing Home in Fond du Lac. He was born in Campbellsport on March 18, 1914, the son of John and Celia (Hicken) Feuerhammer. On July 5, 1947, he married Erna Jochmann. She preceded him in death on December 29, 2001.
Alvin proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WW2. He spent 4 ½ years involved in various campaigns throughout the South Pacific; Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines to name a few. When he was honorably discharged at wars end, it was at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Alvin retired from the Fond du Lac School District in 1977 having spent his career as a Maintenance Supervisor. He enjoyed fixing and riding bicycles. He was also known to be an excellent woodworker and avid fisherman. Alvin was a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church and continued to be an active member until his death.
Surviving Alvin are his twin sons; Robert (Carol) and Dick (Darlene), one grandson, Brett (Jen) and one great-grandson, Connor. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and all five of his siblings.
FUNERAL SERVICE
A visitation for Alvin will be held Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Hope Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 12:00 PM with Pastor John Fuchs officiating. Military honors will be presented by members of the American Legion, Trier – Puddy Post #75. Burial will take place Monday at Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Grancare and the staff of both St. Agnes Hospital and Agnesian Hospice Hope.
