Amanda "Mandy" S. Schmitz-Wehner

Amanda “Mandy” S. Schmitz-Wehner, 97, of Fond du Lac, died Thursday, May 23, 2024 at St. Francis Home. She was born in the Town of Calumet on June 18, 1926, the daughter of George and Olive Olig Schmitz. On February 20, 1954 she married Ernest R. Schmitz at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg and he preceded her in death on August 4, 1999. On January 7, 2006 she married Oliver M. Wehner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fond du Lac and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2017.

Mandy worked for Moraine Park Technical College until her retirement in 1989.  She was a member of Holy Family Parish.  She volunteered for the Salvation Army, Red Cross Blood Drives, St. Agnes Hospital, and Hospice Home of Hope.  She enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing bridge, sheepshead, and cribbage, and knitting.

She is survived by her children, Sue (Robert) Ferschinger, Brad Schmitz, and Joe (Vickie) Schmitz; seven grandchildren, Michael Ferschinger, Zachary Schmitz, Micah Schmitz, Asher Schmitz, Joe Schmitz Jr., Jennifer (Brian) Patrick, and Nick Behring; three great grandchildren, Rylan, Taryn, and Emmeryn Patrick; sisters-in-law, Helen Schmitz, Patricia (Clem) Mertens, and Georgie Smet; brother-in-law, Harold Schmitz; and other relatives.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; brother, Elmer Schmitz; and other relatives.

The visitation will be held Thursday, June 20, 2024 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street in Fond du Lac.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday in the chapel.   Cremation has taken place and private inurnment will be held at Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Salvation Army, Holy Family Parish, Hospice Home of Hope, or St. Vincent de Paul in Amanda’s name.

The family extends a special thank you to Sister Julia for her spiritual support and to the staffs of St. Francis Home and SSM Hospice for their care and compassion given to Amanda and her family.
