Ann M. Hupfer, 74, of Fond du Lac, died peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at St. Agnes Hospital. She was born September 13, 1948, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Ralph and Betty (Deitte) Wendels. Ann graduated from St. Mary Springs High School Class of 1966. On June 22, 1968, she married Gregory J. Hupfer at St. Louis Catholic Church in Fond du Lac.
Ann spent her career in the banking industry, and eventually co-founded Mortgage Specialists, LLC, where she worked until retiring in 2010. She was involved in many organizations throughout her lifetime, including the FDL County Kennel Club and Phoenecian Daughters. Ann was Past President of FDL Evening Kiwanis and continued to volunteer at their Walleye Weekend fish fry for many years. Ann was an avid golfer as a member of the Rolling Meadows Women’s League and helped organize the annual GGG outing. She also attended many Wisconsin Women’s golf tournaments, especially if it was held near a casino. Playing cards was one of her passions, specifically weekly Canasta and Texas Hold ‘Em tournaments. Ann was particularly happy at a poker table, whether she was in a local casino, traveling to a tournament in Iowa, or playing with her family and many friends. She also enjoyed fishing and deer hunting, and especially loved spending time with her family in any way. Ann was someone you instantly loved the moment you met her. No matter where Ann showed up, she lit up the room and made everyone feel at ease with her easygoing personality. She was kind and loving, yet could take you by surprise with her quick wit and humor. Ann will be greatly missed here on Earth, but we know she is rejoicing in Heaven with the loved ones who went before her and we’re quite confident that she has already started a card game with them.
Ann is survived by her husband, Greg; two daughters, Kris (Jamie) Waite of Sheboygan and Katie (Jason) Gunzy of Fond du Lac; four grandchildren, Tyler and Kimber Waite and Aidan and Caleb Gunzy; her mother, Mary Wendels; five siblings, Joe (Mary Jo) Wendels, Joan (Peter) Wettstein, Ann (Linda Holenstein) Reader, Tom (Judy) Reader, and Jim (JoAnn) Wendels; sister-in-law, Beth Wendels; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, John Wendels and Mary Ellen Wendels.
