Anneli (Kauppila) Vehmas

Anneli (Kauppila) Vehmas, 97, went to be with the Lord on the morning of December 6, 2022. She was born in Tampere, Finland. She grew up in Tampere and married the love of her life there, Arvo Vehmas on November 10, 1946. Her children, son Andrew (Vesa) and daughter Helen (Heli) were born there before the family came to the United States in 1954. They made their home in Waukegan, Illinois for years where she worked as a receptionist for Dr. Edward Wones until her retirement. They then moved to Kenosha and finally Fond du Lac. She made many dear friends wherever she went with her friendly smile and Finnish accent.

She is survived by her son, Andrew and wife, Kiki Vehmas; daughter, Helen and husband, Elliot Marcelain; grandchildren, Amie (Marcelain) and husband Wesley Meenk, Peter and wife Tania Vehmas, Sophia and husband, Srdjan Ubiparipovic; her great granddaughters, Courtney and Kelsey Meenk, Vasi and Andi Ubiparipovic.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arvo; parents, Eino and Irja Kauppila; brother, Jorma Kauppila; and first grandchild, Steven Marcelain.

Her family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at the Adelaide Place and Preceptor Hospice Care for their loving care in her last days.

A memorial service for Anneli will be held at a later date. Family and friends will be advised as to when and where.
