Anthony “Tony” Ellner, age 79, of Fond du Lac, passed away on August 26, 2024, at his home. He was born on January 2, 1945, in Fond du Lac, the son of Harold and Evelyn (Sonnenberg) Ellner. On May 14, 1966, Tony married Linda Smith at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Fond du Lac. Tony worked for Sadoff Iron & Metal Company in Fond du Lac for 45 years as a truck driver and retired in 2010. He began to study the Bible in 2014 and on September 30, 2018, he was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The Fond du Lac Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses will miss him dearly as he grew to have many close friends there.
It’s hard to forget someone like Tony who gave us so much to remember! Tony was a very kind, thoughtful, gracious, and generous man. It brought him much joy to be able to make you laugh and to lighten another’s burden even if just a little bit. Tony’s hobbies included trap shooting and hunting with his favorite dogs – Bud, Patch, Bo, Buddy and Max. He also found much enjoyment watching the birds at his feeders, along with the hummingbirds in his backyard.
Tony is survived by his sister, Wanda (Tony) Halfmann; brother, Stanley “Sam” Ellner; nephews, Paul and Peter Halfmann; and great nieces, great nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife of forty-six years, Linda Ellner; his parents, Harold and Evenlyn; and father and mother-in-law, George and Murnabelle Smith.
