Arden R. Hjelle, 87, of Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Hospice Home of Hope. He was born September 7, 1928 in Little Falls, WI, the son of Ogden and Magnhild Gilbertson Hjelle. On June 18, 1949 he married Jean C. Eggers at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church and she preceded him in death on April 7, 2013. Arden served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from January 1952 – October 1953. He worked for Blakely Auto Parts for 32 years and owned and operated Fond du Lac Auto Machine until 2007, retiring in 2012. He was a founding member of EAA Chapter 252 and a member of Fondy Vintage Car Club, Lomira American Legion Post 347, and Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church. Arden was proud of his EAA Grand Champion Homebuilt Aircraft. He enjoyed old cars, airplanes, and traveling.
He is survived by two children, Tim (LuAnn) Hjelle of Malone, Sue (Clint) Saunders of Lawrenceville, GA; four grandchildren, Lisa (Matt) McCabe, Karen Hjelle, Nathan Saunders, and Jordan Saunders; one sister, Phyllis (Lyle) Collien of Oakfield; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
The visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church, 20 Wisconsin American Drive, Fond du Lac and again on Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 at church. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Tom Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in Avoca Cemetery, Oakfield.
