Barbara E. Wagner

September 11, 1944 — June 30, 2014

Barbara Elyn Wagner, 69, died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief illness on June 30, 2014.

Barbara was born to the late Joseph and Eleanor (Celichowski) Heisler on September 11, 1944, in Oshkosh. She was a member of the first graduating class at Lourdes High School in 1962. She graduated from UW-¬Oshkosh and began her art education career in Green Bay. She married Charles Wagner on October 26, 1968, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oshkosh and went on to teach at New Holstein Junior High. She was later employed by Wagner Brothers Well Drilling, Inc. where she served as corporate secretary until her retirement.

Barbara loved raising her children and was filled with pride for them. She considered being a mother as the best "job" she ever had. This same love and pride was later lavished on her many grandchildren, who were the treasures of her life.

Blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, which she considered a gift from God, and a genuine care for people, Barbara touched the lives of nearly everyone she met with her kindness, warmth and laughter. When she discovered that she was ill, she decided that "I'm going to go out laughing, even if it kills me."

Barbara was a member of Holy Cross Church where she taught religious education for many years. Her "love affair" with God was the center of her life. A self-help program on Wednesday afternoons was essential to her, as were the angels that she met there. She was a friend of Lois W.

She is survived by her loving children: Elyn (Timothy) Hoefs of Wisconsin Rapids, Elizabeth (Kevin) Voelkel of Franklin, Emily (Brian) Meyer of Oshkosh, and Anthony (Carey) Wagner of Merton, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Nathaniel and Jeremy Hoefs; Austin, Samuel, and Lucille Voelkel; Hope, Rose, Chloe, and Emerson Meyer; Mame, William, Charles, and James Wagner. She is further survived by her brothers-in-law Lyle Koch of Oshkosh and Jerome (Sharon) Wagner of Fond du Lac; her sisters-in-law Mary Jazdzewski of Oshkosh, and Patricia (James) Wargula of Fitchburg; and nieces, nephews, godchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

Preceding Barbara in death was her beloved husband, Charlie; her parents, Joseph and Eleanor; her cherished sister Doris (Lyle) Koch; and her father and mother-in-law, Erhard and Lucille Wagner; aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends, including several loving dogs that brought fun to her life.
