Bertha M. Kurki, age 88, of Route 1, Highbridge, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Golden Living Center - Court Manor Nursing Home in Ashland, Wisconsin. She was born August 3, 1921 in the Town of Marengo, the daughter of Henry and Sanna Ojala Maatta. Bertha was a graduate of Ashland High School Class of 1939. On September 30, 1939 she married Alex B. Kurki in Ashland and he preceded her in death on September 25, 1984. She was active in her local Homemaker's Club and also at the state level. Bertha enjoyed dancing, reading, and loved spending time with her six sons and their families. SURVIVORS: six sons, John (Claudia) Kurki, South Range, WI, Irv (Cynthia) Kurki, Brookline, MA, Albert (Kathy) Kurki, Helena, MT, David Kurki, Highbridge, Don (Barb) Kurki, Fond du Lac, Richard Kurki, Highbridge; a grandson, Christopher (Laura) Kurki, Fond du Lac and nine other grandchildren; eight great grandchildren. Bertha is survived by two sister- in-laws; Sal Matta and Sylvia Maatta both of New York state and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, eight brothers and sisters.
VISITATION: Family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 from 5 to 6 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. FUNERAL: Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 6:00 PM at the funeral home with Reverend David Pavesic officiating. Cremation has taken place with inurnment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Highbridge, WI.A memorial is being established in Bertha's name.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
