Betty J. Rabbitt Reetz, 76, of Fond du Lac died Sunday, June 10, 2018 peacefully at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac. She was born in Neshkoro on June 14, 1941, WI to Bernard and Edith (Good) Rabbitt. Betty attended the Agnesian School of Nursing, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1962. On September 7, 1963 she married the love of her life and best friend, Ivan Reetz. They moved to Fond du lac, WI where Betty spent 40 years at Agnesian Healthcare in a variety of roles and Ivan retired as a mechanic at Friday Canning Company. Betty and Ivan raised four children, Dan (Beth) of Burlington, WI, Cathy (Bob) Carlson of Northfield, MN, Paul (Laura) of Fond du Lac, WI, and Brian (Jamie) of Verona, WI. Betty and Ivan were blessed with eight grandchildren, whom she adored, Jacob, Samuel, Emma, Jenna, Joshua, Ella, Evelyn, Abram. Betty loved her family above all else and took great pride in her children and the wonderful families and lives that they each created.
Betty focused on living her life with grace and gratitude, grateful for any favor or blessing. She loved social outings, always responding “if two or more are gathered, count me in!” She cherished any opportunity to connect with family and friends.
Beyond family, Betty’s passion was Agnesian Healthcare. Devoting herself to the hospital since 1959, Betty was instrumental in fulfilling the mission, vision and values of Agnesian. She considered herself blessed by both the people who she served, and those with whom she served. Betty sincerely believed some of the finest people on the planet walked through those doors as providers and consumers. Inspiring many along her journey, Betty strived to bring out the best in others through grace and gratitude.
The story of Betty’s journey through life could not be told without sharing her love story with her husband, Ivan. Through 54 and ½ years of marriage they set an incredible example of faith, hard work, love and service, which they used to inspire their community, family, children, and each other. From the moment Betty saw Ivan in the middle school play, to her final days, they led an example that their family, friends and community will carry forward.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and many other people special to her. Survived by her husband, Ivan; her four children and eight grandchildren; her sister, Mary (John) Detert of Fond du Lac, WI; and her loving sister-in-law, Janet (Emil) Bohn of Neshkoro, WI.
Betty would often say at large gatherings of different crowds, “this is truly one of my favorite groups.” If Betty happened to touch your life, know without a doubt that you fit into one of those groups.
