Betty Jane Benzel

November 24, 1929 — July 1, 2014

Betty Jane Benzel, 84 formerly of 476 Washington Street, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home due to complications from a stroke. Betty was born November 24, 1929 in Mayville, WI to Arnold and Ella Snyder Walters. On December 7, 1946 she was united in marriage to Wilmer W. Benzel at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mayville. They resided in Nasbro, WI moving to Fond du Lac a few years later. Betty was a member of Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church. She worked at Damrow Bros. and was a devoted mother of five and a loving wife to Wilmer. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. You never left Grandmas’ house empty handed, she always had caramel brownies or toffee bars to go. She enjoyed passing on her recipes to her family but some were never as good as her treats.



Surviving her are three daughters, Sue (Ralph) Malo of Fond du Lac, Pat (Milford)Hopp of Waupun, and Debbie (Larry)Conger of Fond du Lac. One son, Jerry (Bonnie) Benzel of Eldorado. Betty has twelve grandchildren, Christine (Mark) Binsfeld, Mike (Angie) Plonsky, Tony (Rachel) Plonsky, Angie King, Amy Malo, Melissa (Morey) Benson, Kathy (Frank) Dutra, Kevin (Sara) Benzel, Kurt Benzel, Misty Konen, Laura (Scott) Ketelhut, Aaron (Katy)Malo. Betty was blessed with nineteen great grandchildren and fifteen great-great grand kids. Betty has a surviving sister Norma (Harvey) Puls, one brother Melvin (Shirley) Walters, one sister-in-law Irene Willett, one brother-in-law Ray Gilgenbach, one special God daughter Linda Haddy; nieces and nephews, special friend Nancy and Rob Kibler and family.



Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter Darlene Plonsky, an infant son, brothers, Raymond, Gordon, and Donald Walters, sister Dorothy Schindel, brother in law, Ted Willett, sister in law Bernice Gilgenbach, son in laws, Jim Schwebke and Jerry Plonsky, Grandsons Randy Schwebke, Mark Plonsky, Ralph Malo Jr., great grandson Buddy Binsfeld and great, great granddaughter Brionna Binsfeld.



The family would like to thank the staff at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home and Agnesian Hospice for the special care they gave Betty while she resided there.



VISITATION: Friends may call on Sunday July 6, 2014 from 4 to 7 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again from 10 to 11 am on Monday July 7, 2014 at church.



FUNERAL: Monday July 7, 2014 at 11am at Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Richard Engen officiating. Burial will follow at Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials in Betty’s name are appreciated to Agnesian Hospice Hope or the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home.
