Brian Anthony HigginsBrian Anthony Higgins, 45, formerly of Fond du Lac, died Saturday, May 27, 2006, in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born August 18, 1960, in Fond du Lac, the son of John "Red" and Suzanne (Hannes) Higgins. He attended St. Louis and St. Patrick's grade schools and graduated from Goodrich High School in June of 1978. The morning after graduation, he left for Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois, and served in the Navy for 17 ½ years. He took early retirement in 1995 as an AME2 (Aviation Structural Mechanic 2nd Class). After serving in "Desert Storm", he remained living in Virginia Beach for the rest of his adult life. During the Persian Gulf War, he was stationed on the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt, about 120 miles off the coast of Iraq. During his Navy career, he was on different ships, and received several awards, medals, and citations. He loved the Green Bay Packers and Notre Dame, and always remained a true fan. On October 28, 1997, he married Aurora Garchitorena in Virginia Beach, VA. Together, they owned several convenience stores in the Norfolk, VA area. For the past four years, he and his wife were employed by the base commissary in Norfolk. He is survived by his wife, Aurora, of Virginia Beach, a daughter, Charl Hollingsworth and a grandson, Brandon Matthews II, both of Norfolk, VA, his mother, Suzanne Higgins of Fond du Lac, a brother, Thomas (Chris) Higgins of Fond du Lac, and three sisters, Bridget (Dan) Jozefowski of Madison, Colleen (Mike) Schlidt of Lomira, and Sheila (Rich) Quirk of Fox Lake. He is further survived by two special Godsons, Shane Higgins and Brett Schlidt, along with other special nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and other relatives and friends. His father, a brother, Joseph Arthur, his maternal and paternal grandparents, a nephew, Ryan Higgins, and many aunts and uncles from both family sides preceded him in death.
Visitation for Brian Anthony Higgins will be on Sunday, June 4, 2006, from 4 to 7 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Monday, June 5, 2006, at 10 am from the funeral home and 10:30 am Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church. The Rev.
