Carlton G. Rothgery

Carlton G. Rothgery, 94, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, died on March 20, 2008. He was born in Fond du Lac on August 27, 1913. After graduation from High School, he worked for the Fond du Lac Water Department and read meters in "every home in the city." He moved to Chicago and went to work for the Campbell Soup Company. He met Hermina "Ike" Eichhorst when she was a nurse and he was a patient in St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. They were married on February 16, 1943, in Lansing, Michigan. Carlton served as a Captain in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the Philippines, New Guinea, other Pacific islands, and Japan. He earned two Silver Stars for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict. After the war, he returned to work for Campbell's, living in Chicago and Park Forest, Illinois. In 1957, he moved to Napoleon, Ohio, and continued to work for Campbell's until he retired in 1978, after 35 years of service. They moved to New Holstein, Wisconsin in 1978, and to Fond du Lac in 1999. Carlton is remembered for his love of his wife and family, love of country, dedication to Campbell's, his love of walking and travelling, and pride in his sons. After their retirement, Carl and Ike traveled to Florida for 14 winters, Germany, and Hawaii. They also frequently visited their children in Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, and Michigan. Carlton is survived by his sons: Michael (Dorothy) of Detroit, Patrick (Becky) of Wauseon, Ohio, and Jeffrey of Royal Oak, Michigan; granddaughters: Emilie Rothgery of Detroit, Raelee Rothgery of Cincinnati, and Katherine (Jay) Fandrey of Columbus, Ohio; great-grandchildren Madeline, John, and Brittany Fandrey; and his sister, Jane (Covill) Musch of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise (Koschnick) Rothgery; his brother, Robert Rothgery; and in April 2007, his wife of 64 years, Hermina Rothgery. He was a member of Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac, and the American Legion.



Carlton's funeral will be at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home in Fond du Lac on Monday, March 24, Pastor Dean Desilet, officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. The service will be at 1 p.m. Committal will be at 2:45 p.m. at the Hillside Cemetery in Chilton. Memorials to the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home and Immanuel-Trinity would be appreciated. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
