Carol A. Gaertig

Carol A. Gaertig, 72, of Fond du Lac, died on Monday, June 3, 2024, at St. Agnes Hospital. She was born on January 21, 1952, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Roland and Marvel (Fausch) Rieder. Carol was a 1970 graduate of St. Mary’s Spring High School. She then attended Cardinal Strict University. On September 8, 1973, she married James Gaertig at St. Mary’s Church, Fond du Lac. Carol was a member of Holy Family Parish, Van Dyne Lions Club, and the Grandparents Club at St. Mary’s Springs Academy. She worked as a support specialist at Morain Park Technical College until her retirement in 2005. Carol enjoyed camping, cruising, hiking, fishing, kayaking, playing pickleball, volunteering and traveling from Florida to Montana and all points in between. Her greatest love was for her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, James; two sons, Neil (Nicole) and Joel (Stephanie) Gaertig; six grandchildren, Victoria, Brendan, Scarlett, Holly, Jack, and Gavin; sister, Mary (David) Balthazor; two brothers, Jim (Lorrie) and John (Cindy) Rieder; three sisters-in-law, Susan Rieder, Diane (Arnie) Langolf, and Lisa (Dan) Luedke; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Marvel; brother, David Rieder; and niece, Leigh-Ann Balthazor.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 3:00 PM – 6:00 M at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will occur at Calvary Cemetery at 10 am on July 13th. Cremation has taken place.  

In lieu of flowers, the family will donate funds to charitable organizations in Carol’s name.
