Carol J. Weigel, 66, of 564 Luco Road, died peacefully with her husband at her side on Saturday, July 4, 2009, at the Hospice Home of Hope. With admirable courage and never a "why me" attitude, she fought every battle diabetes confronted her with during the past 41 years. She was born September 12, 1942, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Alvin and Dorothy Gfrorer Wix. She was a 1960 graduate of L.P. Goodrich High School. On August 17, 1963, she married Carleton F. Weigel at St. Louis Church in Fond du Lac and they began a marriage of great devotion to each other that very few couples have or ever will experience. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She especially treasured the time spent playing the board game of Candy Land and Michigan Rummy with her three grandchildren. Much of her life was spent collecting and restoring antiques. She is survived by her husband, Carleton; two daughters, Deborah (Ron) Dins of New Holstein, and Brenda (Andy) Caine of Lowell, WI; three grandchildren, Patrick, Grace, and Matthew Caine, her mother, Dorothy Koentopp of Fond du Lac; five brothers and sisters, Robert (Barb) Wix of Fond du Lac, Richard (Mary) Wix of Rosendale, Sandy (Jim) Kemnitz of Eldorado, Mary (John) McCadden of Lake Tomahawk, and Frank (Judy) Wix of Fond du Lac; one step-brother, Rick (Linda) Koentopp of Colorado, nieces and nephews, and special friends and traveling companions, Ray and Pat Shaver of Fond du Lac. She was preceded in death by her father, her father and mother-in-law, Carl and Mary Frances Weigel, and her stepfather, Harold Koentopp.
