Charles “Chuck” L. Millard, Jr., 86, died Friday, August 7, 2015 surrounded by his family at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born on February 8, 1929, the oldest son of Charles and Mary (Podoll) Millard, Sr.. Chuck served his country during the Korean War as a Forward Observer, A Battery 11th Field Artillery, 24th Infantry Division, U.S. Army. While on leave, he met Joanne Lohry. They were married at the Church of Peace in Fond du Lac on August 15, 1953. Chuck retired from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections after more than 3 decades of service. It was a career that he had a true passion for and loved for the rest of his life.
Chuck once said to Joanne; “While I was in a foxhole in Korea, all I wanted was to make it home alive and have a wife and a family. I did. And I had the best.”
Surviving Chuck is his wife of 61 years, Joanne; daughters, Robin (Richard) Kahlhamer, Tina (Mike) Lohry, and Terry Rosenau; 5 grandchildren, Seth Rosenau, Keith Lohry, Steven Lohry, Cozette Rosenau and Willow Rosenau; 2 step-granddaughters, Michelle Kahlhamer and Lisa Bornick-Kahlhamer; 1 step-great-grandson, Bryce Bornick; and another great-grandchild on the way. He is further survived by his younger brother, Lucien (Joann). Chuck was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Chuck will be held Monday, August 10, 2015 from 4:00 PM -8:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave. in Fond du Lac. Funeral service for Chuck will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Pastor Steven Huff of Hope Lutheran Church will conduct the service with military honors being presented by the American Legion – Trier Puddy Post #75. Taps will be played by Chuck’s grandson, Steven Lohry. Cremation will follow the services.
