Charles "Charlie" FieldCharles "Charlie" Field, 92, of St. Peter's Place, Fond du Lac, died on Monday morning, March 21, 2011, at St. Agnes Hospital.Charlie was born on April 14, 1918 in Milwaukee, a son of Charles (Chris) and Gertrude Aston Field. On April 29, 1939; he married Mildred Harland at United Methodist Church in Pewaukee.Charlie had a rich life"”blessed with the wisdom of experience, a gift for conversation, and many friendships. He was a Master Mason, member of Fond du Lac Masonic Lodge 26, and received his 50-year recognition plaque in 2003. Charlie enjoyed sports and was an avid bowler for 75 years, belonging to various leagues and participating in many tournaments in both Wisconsin and Florida. He celebrated his 90th birthday while bowling in a league at Karl Ray Lanes.As a teen, Charlie studied auto mechanics and welding at Milwaukee Vocational School. In 1935, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. Two years later, he returned to Milwaukee, working at Murphy Diesel and beginning a career in commercial and hospital laundries. Charlie advanced to managing the laundry at the Faust Hotel in Rockford, IL. He later held a sales position in Wisconsin, selling laundry and dry cleaning supplies and equipment. Charlie and his family eventually settled in Fond du Lac where he and Mildred operated Fond du Lac Steam Laundry and Sir Charles and Queen Millie's Tavern. In 1974, Charlie retired from Taycheedah Correctional Institution where he worked as a power plant operator.He and Mildred then moved to Summerfield, Florida and enjoyed the sunshine for 22 years before returning to Fond du Lac in 1996.Charlie's memory will be cherished by those he leaves behind: his three sons: Jack (Diane) Field of Princeton and Fond du Lac; Richard (Sharleen) Field of Britt, Iowa; C.T (Cheryl) Field of Fond du Lac; six grandchildren: Jay (Peggy) Field, Jaimie Field, Rick Field, Lori (John) Seemann, John Field, Logan Field; four step grandchildren: Lisa (Jamie) Rameker, Shane Solamita, Frank Rothrock, Aaron (Andrea) Rothrock: one sister-in-law: Elvina (Fred) Maycock: and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Mildred, on June 3, 2000; a brother, Enoch Field; and a sister, Myrtle (Erich) Seignemartin; sisters- and brothers-in law-Clara (LeRoy) Ryan, Earl (Laverne) Harland.



Services: A Masonic service will be held at 3:30PM on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home.Visitation: Friends and family may call from 1:00PM to 3:30PM at the funeral home.The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Colmenares, Dr. Santa-Cruz, and the caring staff and residents at St. Peter's Place.
