Charles H. Bau, 81, of North Fond du Lac, died Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Hospice Home of Hope. He was born June 6, 1935 in Sheboygan, the son of Floyd and Glenore Wunsch Bau. Charlie graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1953. He served in the US Army from 1955 – 1957 and was stationed in London, England where he met the love of his life, Barbara. On February 8, 1958 he married Barbara A. Gudge in Sheboygan and she preceded him in death on September 15, 2013. Charlie was self employed as a manufacturer’s sales rep, retiring in 2000. He was an active member of Community United Methodist Church. Charlie was a former member of the Toastmasters and Jaycees. He was a founding member of the North Fond du Lac Optimist Club serving as president twice. He was a military history buff, especially WWII and enjoyed volunteering at the EAA. He enjoyed playing cards, biking, being outdoors and was devoted to his family. He was a social man, Charlie never said no to a shot and a beer!
He is survived by three children, Chuck (Linda) Bau of North Fond du Lac, Jennifer Colla of Fond du Lac, and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Bau of Neenah; six grandchildren, Jillian (Jerry) Alder, Alyssa (Chris) Schwab, Natalie Bau, Christopher Colla, Phillip Bau, and Stephanie Bau; two great grandchildren, Reva Alder and Leo Schwab; one sister, Barbara Rickmeier of Sheboygan; his dear friend, Shirley Beusch of Fond du Lac; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; and son-in-law, Michael Colla.
The visitation will be on Friday, February 10, 2017, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Community United Methodist Church, 701 Minnesota Avenue, North Fond du Lac. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 PM at the church on Friday. Cremation has taken place and private inurnment will be in Salem Evangelical Cemetery, Town of Eldorado at a later date.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Agnesian Hospice Home of Hope, Dr. Filip Troiki and staff, and Dr. Guy Jensen for the care and compassion given to Charlie and his family.
Memorials are appreciated to the North Fond du Lac Optimist Club or Community United Methodist Church in Charlie’s name.
