Charles S. “Chuck” Leemon, 97, a resident of Eldorado, Wis., passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband to Dorothy Margaret (Doering) Leemon. They were married October 4, 1940 and shared 72 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on August 2, 2012. Chuck was born in Ladoga, Wis. on March 19, 1919. He was the son of the late Roy and Maggie (Smith) Leemon.
Chuck was very proud to have served his country as a young man in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). He also served during World War II with the U.S. Navy in the European Theater from 1942 through 1945.
Chuck farmed and was employed at International Paper Company until his retirement.
He and Dorothy enjoyed wintering in Florida the past 31 years. Chuck loved playing shuffle board, dominoes and bingo. He also enjoyed volunteering for the “We Hop” Friday morning breakfast at Waters Edge RV Resort in Zephyrhills, Fla.
He loved spending time with his family, his farm, gardening and took pride in his apple orchard.
He is survived by his eight children; Judith (Sidney) Shafer, Darrlyn “Jean” Hanisch, Nancy (Alvin) Mello, Cheryl (Michael) Brooks, Warren “Butch” (Pamela) Leemon, Debra (Joseph) Loehr, Ronald (Sheryl) Leemon and Mark (Kim) Leemon. He was loved by his 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife, Dorothy, he was also preceded in death by his brothers Edwin and Ralph Leemon and sister Alice Crowley.
VISITATION will be held at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Avenue in Fond du Lac on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM. FUNERAL service will begin at 2:00 PM with burial to follow in Rosendale Cemetery. Military honors will be presented at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Heartland Hospice of Fond du Lac or the Historic Galloway House & Village in Fond du Lac; specifically, the CCC Building.
