Charles U. Wagner, 68, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness on January 19, 2013.Charlie was born on February 10, 1944, to the late Erhard and Lucille (Lex) Wagner in the Town of Marshfield in their family home. He graduated from Lowell P. Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac in 1963. He attended the University of Wisconsin Continuing Education Program in Business Administration which assisted him in his role as vice president and treasurer of Wagner Brothers Well Drilling, Inc. which he owned with his brother Jerome.On October 26, 1968, Charlie married the love of his life, Barbara Heisler at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oshkosh. Their marriage was blessed with four children.He was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mt. Calvary where he served as an usher and on the church council. For the last forty years, Charlie had been a member of the Winnebago East Shore Lions Club where he served as president for one year and bingo chairman for over twenty years. He was awarded the Melvin Jones Award which gave him great pride.Charlie was a member of the Home Builders Association of Fond du Lac and Dodge Counties and the Wisconsin Water Well Association. Over the years, he was an avid bowler and golfer. In later years, he dedicated much of his time to the craft of woodworking, creating many works of art for family and friends. Caring for wild birds and chipmunks, he found much peace and joy.Charlie was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was hard-working, ingenious, kind-hearted and had a marvelous sense of humor.Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara; his four children, Elyn (Tim) Hoefs of Wisconsin Rapids, Elizabeth (Kevin) Voelkel of Franklin, Emily (Brian) Meyer of Oshkosh, and Anthony (Carey) Wagner of Hartland; grandchildren, Nathaniel and Jeremy Hoefs; Austin, Samuel, and Lucille Voelkel; Hope, Rose, and Chloe Meyer; and Mame, William, Charles, and soon-to-be-born James Wagner; his brother, Jerome (Sharon) Wagner of Fond du Lac; his sisters, Mary Jazdzewski of Oshkosh, and Patricia (James) Wargula of Fitchburg; two nephews and a niece; and numerous relatives and friends.Preceding him in death were his parents, Erhard and Lucille; infant brother David; father and mother-in-law Joseph and Eleanor Heisler; and sister-in-law Doris (Lyle) Koch.
VISITATION: Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 3-7 P.M. at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave, Fond du Lac, WI. FUNERAL: Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Visitation will also take place on Wednesday morning at the funeral home from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services. Cremation will follow the traditional services.In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Charlie's name has been established.
