Charles W. John

Charles W. John, 88, formerly of Lamartine, and a current resident of Fond du Lac Lutheran home died Sunday, January 16, 2011. He was born August 31, 1922 in Montello, the son of Walter and Louise Corcran John. On November 17, 1946 he married Inga A. Pobanz at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waupun and celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary in November of 2010. Chuck was a veteran of the US Navy serving from 1941 "“ 1945 during the American and European Theatre as a chief electricians mate. He was aboard the ship that was torpedoed in the Atlantic and received a victory medal. Chuck worked for Wisconsin Bell Telephone for 33 years retiring in 1983. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waupun where he served on church council, was a member of the choir, ushered and taught Sunday school. Chuck was a member of the Lamartine Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years and was the oldest living member, he was the chairman for the Lamartine Picnic Parade for many years, a blood donor, boy scout leader, president of the Oakfield Music Association and served one term on the Oakfield School Board, a former First Aide and CPR trainer for Moraine Park and Red Cross Civil Defense, and a delegate to the Equitable Reserve Association. Chuck also enjoyed spending winters in Mission, Texas with his wife for 16 years where a Wisconsin State Dinner was held and Chuck was responsible for getting the Johnsonville Truck to come and serve brats at the dinner. He was also a member of the Fiesta Singers Group who sang at surrounding parks in Mission, TX.SURVIVORS: his wife of 64 years, Inga, North Fond du Lac; three children, Richard John, South Elgin, IL, Randee (Michael) Waltz, Minocqua, WI, Michael (Janet) John, Wild Rose, WI; two grandsons, Tim Waltz and Matthew (Stacey) Waltz; one brother, George (Elizabeth) John, Portage, WI; four sisters-in-law, Hilda Ogle, Oakfield, Ardell Roeske, Ann Arbor, MI, Artis Rittershaus, Elm Grove, WI, Barbara (Larry) Cedar, Fond du Lac; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one sister.



A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waupun. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be held at a later date in Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers memorials are appreciated to Immanuel Lutheran Church.The family would like to thank the staff of Fond du Lac Lutheran Home for the care and compassion given to Charles the last year.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
