Chester P. Wilcox, Jr., 71, of Fond du Lac, died Thursday, September 6, 2018. He was born October 18, 1946 in Fond du Lac, as the second child of the late Chester and Mabel (Hoffman) Wilcox.
Chester grew up and attended schools in Fond du Lac, graduating in 1965 from Goodrich High School and then later continued his education to receive his Journeyman Mechanic Degree from Moraine Park Technical College. After graduation from high school, he proudly served our country in the U.S. Army from 1965 – 1968 and then the U.S. Army Reserves. His first stop was Fort Knox, Kentucky for basic training, then onto Fort Rucker, Alabama where he had training in aircraft maintenance. He was then transferred to Fort Hood, Texas for more specialized training in single and multi-engine airplane maintenance. Fort Hood at the time, was also used to train and deploy troops for Vietnam. During his tour of Vietnam, he obtained the rank of an SPC5 Army Crew Chief and was awarded many medals including the Purple Heart, Air Medal and two Presidential Unit Citations.
In 1969 he married Kathleen Shea and they had one child, Chad. On March 27, 1976 he married his current wife, Darlene Bublitz at Luther Memorial Church in Fond du Lac and they had two children, Brian and Bridget.
Chester worked at Mercury Marine over 40 years and in 2009 retired as the maintenance department group leader.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; two sons, Chad Wilcox of Plymouth and Brian (Rachel) Wilcox of Fond du Lac; one daughter, Bridget Benike of Fond du Lac; six grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Wilcox and Jeffrey (Amy) Wilcox all of Fond du Lac; three sisters, Patricia Zeman of Campbellsport, Sally Holz and Mary Wilcox, both of Fond du Lac. Other survivors include his brothers-in-law, Thomas Behring and Claude Strean; his sister-in-law, Wendy Wilcox, all of Fond du Lac; nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Allen and Donald; sister, Susan Behring; brother-in-law, Daniel Zeman; and sisters-in-law, Jeanne Wilcox and Nancy Strean.
The visitation will be held Tuesday, September 11, 2018 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Rienzi Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #75.
