Claire E. Portier

Claire E. Portier, Sr. 86 of Fond du Lac passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the Hospice Home of Hope. He was born on January 24, 1925 in Oconto Falls, the son of Earl J. and Luella M. Fuller Portier. On November 7, 1970 he married Evelyn "Evie" M. Tackett in Oconto Falls. He was a graduate of Oconto Falls High School. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army he enlisted in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1945. Claire was a recipient of the Purple Heart. After serving in the war he went to Oshkosh Teachers College receiving a bachelor degree in education. He then went on to the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee working on his master's degree and later received his master's degree in special education from the University of Northern Colorado. He was employed with the Fond du Lac School District for 40 years retiring in 1987. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Trier-Puddy American Legion Post No.75, Fond du Lac Eagles Aerie No. 270, Wisconsin Education Association, National Education Association, WI Retired Association of Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac Area Retired Education Association, U.W. Oshkosh Alumni Association, University of Northern Colorado University Alumni Association. He was a very active member of the Fond du Lac Senior Center. Claire was a part-time water aerobics instructor at the Aquatic Center and a member of the Happy Travelers where he served as a trip coordinator.SURVIVORS: Claire is survived by his wife, Evelyn "Evie" Portier, Fond du Lac, a daughter, Brenda (Corey) Mullard, Appleton, a son Claire "CJ" (Kimberly) Portier, Fond du Lac, six grandchildren; Avery Portier, Madison Mullard, Carter Portier, Brayden Mullard, Jack Mulllard, and Payton Portier. Claire was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister Carol Trepanier.



VISITATION: Friends may call on Monday, November 28, 2011 from 4-8 PM at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 from 10:00 AM to the time of services. FUNERAL: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 11:00 At Holy Family Parish-Sacred Heart Church with Reverend Victor Capriolo officiating. Entombment will follow in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum. Trier-Puddy American Legion Post No. 75 will conduct military services.In lieu of flowers memorials appreciated to the Fond du Lac Senior Center Travel Club in Claire's name.
