Connie L. Schaefer Keys, age 83, of Fond du Lac, died Monday, September 25, 2023, at Harbor Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Eau Claire, WI, on April 10, 1940, the daughter of Raymond and Margaret (Engeldinger) Traun. She graduated from Mount Mary College with a degree in Social Work. She worked in this field until her marriage to Herbert Schaefer in 1967. He preceded her in death in 1977. She then married Vernon Keys in 1985. He preceded her in death in 2012.
Connie was a classic through and though, a timeless piece. She was a trail blazer and a trend setter with an affinity for Chico’s. Connie was a woman of faith, strong in her beliefs and convictions and a longtime member of Sacred Heart Holy Family Parish. Connie was a gracious friend with a very generous and giving heart. She found much joy in spending time with her boys and their families. Connie could often be found attending her grandchildren’s school events or extracurricular activites. Connie loved to travel and had an adventurous spirit. She established great family traditions like annual trips to Sanibel Island and The Osthoff Resort that afforded us all cherished memories. Connies leaves behind a legacy of love and wanderlust.
She is survived by her two sons, who were her pride and joy, Todd (Veronica) Schaefer and James (Chris) Schaefer; her grandchildren who brought her much laughter and love, Sarah (Zach) Sleder, Sam (Karissa Albrecht) Schaefer, Benjamin Schaefer, Simone Schaefer, Harrison Schaefer, Harmony Schaefer, Dexter Schaefer, Max Macek, Myles Macek, Marec Macek, and Margaret Macek; Step-Children, Kenneth (Rose) Keys, Cheryl (Shawn) O’Connell, and Larry (Barb) Keys, grandchildren: Robert Keys, Russell Keys (Christina), Karen (Dave) Roeske, Daniel (Michaela) Keys, Yvonne Davis, Benjamin Giddings, Kenneth Giddings, Karen Langdon, Jason O’Connell, Stacey Farley, and Abby Tritt, great grandchildren: Kameron (Brock) Wittrock, Cole (Lucy) Keys, Kaylee Keys, Rebecca Keys, Ian Keys, Timothy Roeske, Michael Roeske, Liam Keys, Sloane Keys, sisters Caryl (Bill) Sinnott and Victoria (Robert) Anthony; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and great friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands, stepdaughter, Cindy Davis, and step grandchild Ron Davis.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, October 1, 2023, from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow the visitation at the funeral home at 4:00 PM. Cremation will follow the service. A dinner will follow the service at the Eagles Club. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 9:30 AM.
