Constantinos “Gus” T. Athanasiou, 90, died Monday, May 28, 2018 at Adelaide Place in Fond du Lac. He was born on the Island of Samos in Marathokomos, Greece on May 31, 1927 to Thalasinos and Maria (Pitas) Athanasiou. In 1947, Gus and his family emigrated to the United States.
Gus enjoyed gardening. He was a supervisor for Tolibia Cheese, retiring in 1989. Gus was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Fond du Lac.
Survivors include two sons, Tom (Kim) Athanasiou of Fond du Lac and John (Dr. Michelle) Athanasiou of Fort Collins, Colo.; daughter, Dr. Maria Athanasiou (Tom Lewis) of Fond du Lac; five grandchildren, Colin, Nicole, Joseph, Sam, and Tess; brother, George (Sophia) Athanasiou; sister-in-law, Joyce Athanasiou; nieces and nephews; special friend, Larrie Mathos; and the Bublitz family. Gus was preceded in death by his parents, Thalasinos and Maria; brother, Steve and an infant brother; and sister, Daphne (Milton) Tembelis.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Friday, June 1, 2018 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 198 N. Macy St. in Fond du Lac, with Trisagon prayers from 9:45 AM – 10:00 AM. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM with Fr. Ted Trifon officiating. Burial in Rienzi Cemetery will follow the services.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Hatahet and Dr. Ford of St. Agnes Hospital, the staff and residents at Adelaide Place, the staff at Harbor Haven and the nurses of Southern Care Hospice.
