Craig E. Sanborn

Craig E. Sanborn, age 66, of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family following a ten year courageous battle with cancer on Friday, January 27, 2017. He was born on April 29, 1950 in Lansing, MI, the son of John L. and Audrey A. (Harkness) Sanborn. On July 29, 1972 Craig married Michelle Krueger in Newberry, MI.



Craig worked at the Fond du Lac County Health Care Center for seventeen years until retiring in 2011. He also has been the Chief of the Town of Fond du Lac Fire Department for the last nineteen years. Craig was an honorary member of the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team and was always willing to help out any way he could. He was an avid Wisconsin Badgers fan and enjoyed NASCAR also. Craig had a larger than life and very memorable personality and was known for his sense of humor. He was a devoted and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. Craig was a generous and giving person and would always do anything he could to lend a hand when needed.



Survivors include his wife Michelle of Fond du Lac; three children, Anna Sanborn of Hurley, WI, Tara (Scott) Guelig of Fond du Lac, and John (Lindsay) Sanborn of Fond du Lac; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Ella, and Connor; his mother, Audrey Sanborn of McMillan, MI; three siblings, Jonathan Sanborn of McMillan, MI, Delbert (Joan) Sanborn of DeWitt, MI, and Rachel Sanborn of McMillan, MI; two sisters-in-law, Jennie (David) Scott of Houghton Lake, MI, Mary Fox of Fond du Lac; one brother-in-law, Lewis Krueger of Fond du Lac; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father.



Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 4-7 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 12 noon at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Visitation will take place on Friday at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the time of services. Cremation has taken place.
