Craig McDermott

Craig McDermott, 73, passed away Monday, August 26, 2024 following a short illness, with family by his side. 

Craig was born December 26, 1950 in Fond du Lac to Shirley McDermott. He was a lifelong resident of Fond du Lac and often talked of the city's history and changes over the years. 

He attended L.P. Goodrich high school, and served in the US Army, including an assignment to Germany. He worked on carts at Pick N Save on Johnson Street, and retired after more than 20 years of service. 

Craig was a fan of the Packers, Bucks and Badgers, and wore his team socks and hats on game days. 

He was an avid reader, in particular John Grisham and Clive Cussler novels. Craig also loved word puzzles, and even made his own crosswords. He followed both local and national news very closely and watched the newscast multiple times a day. 

Craig was preceded in death by his parents; uncles, Willis, Carlton and Louis McDermott; aunt, Lucette (McDermott) Schuman; grandparents, John and Ella (Becker) McDermott; cousin, Royal Schuman; cousin-in-law, Randy Hollander. He is survived by cousins, BeLinda (McDermott) Hollander, Greg and Hannah Hollander, Joshua Hollander and Ryan Job, Amanda (Hollander) and Doug Lane, Kelly (McDermott) Nelson, Chris, Carly and Nik Nelson, Michel (McDermott) Bryson, Skyler Bryson, Louise (McDermott) and Brian Moeller.

Cremation has taken place and burial of cremains will take place at a future date in Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac. 

The family would like to thank the SSM Hospice and Edenbrook care teams for taking care of Craig these last few weeks. Plus a special heartfelt thank you to Team Craig at Lakeland Care and Community Living Connections - Noogsi and Michele, Amber and Kayla for all you've done to help Craig remain independent over the last year.
