Dale L. Smith

Dale L. Smith, 75, of Brownsville, passed away Monday, December 14, 2015 at home with family by his side after a four month battle with cancer. He was born October 30, 1940, the son of Wesley and Elsie Nichols Smith. On July 6, 1963 he married Shirley A. Thornton. Together they farmed all of their lives. He attended Milwaukee Diesel School after graduating from Oakfield High School in 1958. Dale worked for Brownsville Canning Company, Crescent Garage, and Zahn Electric. Dale was a member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ. He was also a past member of the Farm Bureau and Brownsville Volunteer Fire Department. Dale enjoyed his pet goats and raising chickens. He also enjoyed bowling and shooting darts, gardening, watching the Packers, driving tractor, traveling, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by many friends and family.



He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Smith; three children, Gary (Catherine) Osier of Brownsville, Jeff (Ann) Smith of Brownsville, and Dawn Kulogo of North Fond du Lac; ten grandchildren, Adam Schwind, Stephanie Meyers, Adam, Jacob and Matthew Elert, Gary Osier Jr., Katie Weiting, Nik, Travis and Tori Kulogo; two great grandchildren, Alex Schwind and Shelby Weiting; and four nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, John and Gwen Thornton; his brother, Floyd (Carol) Smith; and brother-in-law, Dick (Jennifer) Thornton.



The visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 535 Stow Street, Fond du Lac and again from 10:00 – 11:00 am on Saturday at the church.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, with Rev. Ted Drewsen officiating. Cremation will follow the traditional services.



The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Agnesian Hospice that took care of Dale the last few months.
