Daniel "Dan" J. Vogds, 67, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born January 25, 1947 in Fond du Lac, the son of Norman and Gertrude (Hensen) Vogds. Dan was a 1965 graduate of Goodrich High School. He served his country in Vietnam as a member of the U.S. Army. He married Mary Ann (King) Jahn on a lucky Friday the 13th in November of 1987. In 2007, Dan retired from Mercury Marine after 38 years. Dan was a kind and gentle soul who loved life, his wife, family, and many, many dear friends. Besides being a Packers, Brewers, and Badgers fan, Dan loved watching ESPN and the History Channel. He was a voracious reader, especially anything related to Vietnam or WWII or music. The Rolling Stones, James Brown or anything in the blues genre were of a special love to him. He was a generous man and offered monetary and personal support to so many. He was especially kind and caring and supportive of his late friend, Nick Christos. Dan loved his very short walk to Schmitty's Oar House for a few short beers and later his Whiskey Old Fashioned where he made many more new friends. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, his mother, four brothers; Michael (Barb), Patrick (Patty), Timothy and David (Lori) Vogds, a sister, Mary (special friend Ken Kandee) Vogds, two stepsons; Randy Jahn and Todd (Cathy) Jahn, four nephews; Todd Asmus, Jacob, Daniel, and Carter Vogds, and two nieces; Casey and Emily Vogds. Dan is further survived by a sister-in-law, Joan Duel, four brothers-in-law; David (Lori) King, Paul (Janice) King, Mike (Aggie) King, Tom (Patti) King and their respective families. He was preceded in death by his father, his brother-in-law, Joe Duel, his nephew, Ben King and many aunts and uncles. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful and supportive Agnesian Hospice Hope nurses and staff for all their caring help. Dr. Punit Kumar, Dan's amazing Palliative Director who steered Dan's family to the Hospice program; Dr. Tim Korytko and Dr. Michael Jones and the caring staff at the Agnesian Cancer Center. Further thanks to Dr. Gregory Hartig at the UW"“Madison Hospital for his long hours in surgery, trying so hard to save Dan and to his neighbors, Jim Meisinger and Jeff Scharf for their help over the past two years.
A visitation for Dan will be held from 2:00 "“ 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave. in Fond du Lac. A Liturgy of the Word Service will follow the visitation at 5:00 P.M. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Trier-Puddy Post #75. Cremation will follow the services.
