Daniel E. A. "Fisherman Dan" Rost, age 77 of 550 Van Dyne Road, Fond du Lac died Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Fond du Lac on December 3, 1931 the son of Emil and Irene Petrich Rost. Daniel enlisted in the army at the age of 17 and served for three years, receiving an honorable discharge on September 23, 1952. He served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1951. He received the Korean Service Ribbon and the Bronze Battle Star. He married Margaret Mae Otter in 1952, while serving at Fort McCoy. They were married at the Church of Our Savior with the Reverend Barney Stecker officiating. They had five children. Daniel was a baker by trade, receiving his training while working at Blue Bird Bakery on (five points) in Fond du Lac. He worked at Tasty Bakery on Main Street, Van Bakery on Forest Avenue, Everix Bakery on Second Street, and Cop's Bakery on Johnson Street for one year. He was also employed at Concord Cheese in Rogersville, Famesville Ventura, and Galloway West, Pizza Hut in Fond du Lac, Green Giant Canning Factory in Rosendale and Ripon. He belonged to several hunting and fishing clubs and loved outdoor sports and enjoyed spending time in the outdoors. Besides his work he was involved in a variety of community activities and fundraisers that involved the frying brats and hamburgers. He was a member of the Gratitude Club and joined fellowship of A.A. to bring his life back into focus for himself, others and mainly God. He tried to help others in the best way he could, one day at a time, as a recovering alcoholic.Survivors include five children Linda (Phillip) Yanke, Campbellsport, David (Pearl) Rost, Fond du Lac, Brenda (Richard) Donahue, Fond du Lac, Connie (Keith) Schaefer, Fond du Lac, Timothy Rost, Fond du Lac, his former wife Margaret Pauloit, Fond du Lac, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three sisters and one brother, Donna (Leonard) Drolshagen, Orlando, FL, Dale (Marie) Rost, Port Washington, Beverly Lohry, Fond du Lac, Darlene (Ronald) Kramer, Fond du Lac. His parents, his second wife, Lola Sears, two brothers, Vernhardt and Douglas, preceded Daniel in death.
