Daniel G. Waranius, 81, died peacefully on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2009, at ManorCare Health Services. He was born January 1, 1928, in Chicago, IL, the eldest son of George Waranius and Ann Waranius Wright. Daniel served in the United States Coast Guard aboard the cutter, Bibb, during World War II. On May 30, 1951, he married Gladys Kopecky in Menomonee, MI. He retired from Giddings & Lewis where he had worked as a Service Representative. He worked throughout the United States, as well as Canada, Soviet Union, South Africa, Scotland, China, and Argentina. He enjoyed music, watching old TV shows and visiting family in the UP of Michigan. Daniel is survived by his wife, Gladys of Fond du Lac; his son, Daniel (Sharon) of Pasadena, MD; and his daughters Kathleen and Carol, both of Fond du Lac; three grandsons, Mathew (Carmen) currently serving in the US Coast Guard in Miami, FL, Joseph, currently serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq, and Zachary of Pasadena, MD; one sister, Merut Cannon of Steiger, IL; one brother-in-law, Donald (Violet) Kopecky of Carney, MI, and one sister-in-law, Lorraine Anders of Carney, MI, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William; brothers-in-law Harvey Kopecky, Richard Cannon, Adolph Anders; and sister-in-law, Francis Waranius.
Private family visitation and services will be on Saturday, September 12, 2009, at the Shrine of Rest, Ledgeview Memorial Park, N6250 County Trunk K, Fond du Lac. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and is serving the family.
