Daniel H. Schmid

Daniel H. Schmid, age 80, of Fond du Lac, died Sunday, January 14, 2018 at his residence. He was born on October 12, 1937 in Chilton, the son of Fred and Edna (Schoen) Schmid. Dan served in the United States Army stationed in Germany. On November 30, 1963 he married Fran Howard in Milwaukee. Dan worked as a chef/restaurant manager in Illinois, he was a machinist at Weber Company in Kiel, and also worked as a farmer and school bus driver for Johnson Bus. He enjoyed woodcarving, and was a member of Kettle Carvers in Plymouth, Fond du Lac Artist Association, German Club at the Senior Center, formerly an EAA member and had his pilot’s license, and Pilgrim United Church of Christ. His two grandchildren, Zach and Lindsay were his greatest joys.



Survivors include his wife Fran of Fond du Lac; two children, Andrew (Pam) Schmid of Fond du Lac, Janet (Bob) Hesprich of Lomira; two grandchildren, Zachary (Samantha Stratz and her daughter Sophia) Schmid, and Lindsay (Ethan Hackbarth) Hesprich; six siblings, Diane (Don) Sattler of Chilton, Ralph (Jeanie) Schmid of Chilton, twin brother, David (Inga) Schmid of Williamsburg, VA, Karl (Judi) Schmid of Rice Lake, Nancy Wanish of Waupun, and Paul (Joan) Schmid of Two Rivers; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one nephew, Dwane Sattler; one brother-in-law, Vern Wanish.



Visitation will take place on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 1-4 PM at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 535 Stow St, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. A funeral service will follow the visitation at the church at 4:00 PM with the Reverend Edmund T. Drewsen III officiating. Cremation has taken place.



In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.
