Daniel L. Thurke, 66, of Fond du Lac, died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born July 6, 1944 in Fond du Lac, the son of William and Gladys Pagel Thurke. He was a graduate of Horace Mann High School, North Fond du Lac, Class of 1962. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the U.S. Carrier Wasp from 1962 "“ 1965 during the Cuban Blockade. On April 2, 1966 he married Sandra Bond in Fond du Lac. He worked at Mercury Marine from 1965 "“ 1968 in the engineering department. From 1968 "“ 1970 he worked with his father and brother doing home construction. He returned to Mercury Marine in 1970 and became the In-plant Printing Manager in 1982 until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fond du Lac Eagles Aerie #270, past president of the North Fond du Lac Business Men's Club, and past officer of the In-plant Printing Management Association. In 1993 he was awarded the National Reproductive In-plant Manager of the Year Award. In 1990 Daniel co founded the Fond du Lac Chapter Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. In 1992 he received the Winnebago Chapter Ducks Unlimited Carver of the Year award along with numerous other carving awards. Daniel was the past League Secretary for the Eagles Bowling Association and was a Certified Youth Bowling Instructor. He enjoyed hunting with his three sons for 25 years in Wyoming and was an avid wood carver.SURVIVORS: He leaves behind but always in their hearts, his loving wife, Sandy; three sons, Timothy (Lynn) Thurke and their children, McKenna and Madilyn, Tyler (Tina) Thurke and their children, Rebecca and Megan, Matthew (Jessica) Thurke and their children, Brockton, Paige Danielle, named after her grandfather, and Reese; two sisters, Arlene Plonske, Nadine (Gordon) Barkow; brother-in-law, whom he thought as his son, Scott (Christine) Bond, and their children, Samuel, Gabrielle and Jonas; brother-in-law, Hiram (Nancy) Bond III; his dog and best buddy, Miles. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard and William Thurke; father and mother-in-law, Hiram and Genevieve Bond; brother-in-law, Earle Plonske; nephew, David Barkow.



VISITATION: will be from 4 "“ 8 PM on Monday, October 18, 2010 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again on Tuesday from 10 "“ 11 AM at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home with Rev. Anthony Farina officiating. Cremation will follow the traditional services. Trier-Puddy American Legion Post No. 75 will conduct military services. In lieu of flowers memorials are appreciated to a charity of one's choice.The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Agnes Hospital ICU Department for their care and compassion and to the many friends for gently embracing us during this difficult time in our lives.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
