Darwin L. Fisher, 95, died Thursday, December 29, 2016 with his family by his side at Woodlands Senior Park in Fond du Lac. Darwin was born in Lamartine on February 8, 1921 to George and Sadie (Delger) Fisher. Along with his eight siblings, he was raised on the family farm. On November 22, 1947, Darwin married Cecelia Shaw at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waupun. She preceded him in death on June 28, 1995.
During the Second World War, Darwin served as a Combat Medic in the U.S. Army with the 505th Infantry Regiment, achieving the rank of Technician Fourth Grade (T/4). He saw action in France and Germany.
Darwin always had a smile on his face. He loved his family; he will be remembered for being a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition, Darwin was devoted to not only his farm, but also to his garden which he would plant each year. Throughout the years, Darwin was a committed fan of the Milwaukee Brewers, whether he watched or listened to the game.
Survivors include his 7 children; Leo (friend Barb) of Texas, Janet (Rollie) Pinno of Rosendale, Agnes (Michael) King of Van Dyne, Barbara (Roger) Schlefke of Rosendale, Diane (Ben) Santori of East Troy, Nancy (Dave) Schaefer of Fond du Lac and Linda (Wayne) Starbird of Brandon; 24 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; 1 brother (and his best friend), Clifford of Fond du Lac; 3 sisters, Jean Costello of Greendale, Dolores Fogarty of California and Ruth Lauerman of Oklahoma; and two sisters-in-law, Betty (John) Towne of Waupun and Rosie Fisher of Fond du Lac. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecelia; his parents, George and Sadie; 3 brothers, Clayton, Gordon and James; and 1 sister, Marcella Kelley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Agnesian Hospice Hope and/or Woodlands Senior Park are appreciated.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Our Risen Savior Catholic Church, W8272 Forest Avenue Rd. in Eldorado. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and continue until the time of service. Burial in the parish cemetery will follow the service accompanied by the presentation of military honors.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of both Agnesian Hospice Hope and Woodlands Senior Park for the care and compassion given to Darwin throughout the recent months.
