David C. Hoops

David C. Hoops, 83, of Fond du Lac, died Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Aurora Medical

Center in Oshkosh. He was born November 6, 1933, in Fond du Lac, the son of Herbert and Bernice Callery Hoops. He was a graduate of Winnebago Lutheran High School Class of 1951. David served in the US Army National Guard. On January 30, 1955, he married Myrna Hills at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in North Fond du Lac. David retired from the Soo Line Railroad after 42 years. He was a member of the Fond du Lac Running Club, the Famed Fearsome Foursome golf team, and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. David enjoyed spending winters in Golf Shore, AL, living on the lake, going to his children and grandchildren’s sporting events, 4th of July get togethers, and going out for Friday Fish with Serena Toll. He was an avid Packer fan and was a strong religious man. David was affectionately known by his family as Grandpa Turkey. David was looking forward to his future assignment in the gardening department with helper Max the cat.



He is survived by his three children, Laurel (Craig) Peachy of Fond du Lac, Glenn (Cindy) Hoops of Moore, SC, and Linda (Tom) Gribben of Fond du Lac; six grandchildren, Craig (Jill) Peachy, Billie Jo (Kyle) Loehr, David (Melissa) Hoops, Christy (Pete) Briand, Doug Hoops, and Tony (Becky) Gribben; eleven great-grandchildren, Rylee, Sam, Spencer, Ayden, Owen, Meghan, Peyton, Brett, Jacob, Alayna, and Harper; special friend, Serena Toll and her family; sister-in-law, Dottie Hoops; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Myrna; two granddaughters, Maggie and Mindy Hoops; and one brother, Robert Hoops.



The visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Matthew Guse officiating. Burial will be held in Estabrooks Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers memorials are appreciated to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in David’s name.
