David D. Roen, 70, of 385 Mason Street, Fond du Lac, passed away on September 12, 2009, at his residence after a short but valiant fight with cancer. He was born on October 18, 1938, in Fond du Lac, the son of Elmer and Helen Francis Roen. David was a veteran of the US Army, serving with Co. G, 47th Infantry in 1957 as a Private at Fort Carson, CO. Private Roen was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Reserve on July of 1963. He was formerly employed by the Fred Rueping Leather Company, and later by Roberts Trucking of Eldorado where he retired as a diesel mechanic after 10 years of service. On September 17th, 1966, he married Gloria Schultz at the Church of Peace. Together they raised five sons. David had a heart of gold. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandpa. He enjoyed raising his family and when his grandchildren and great-grandchildren needed him, he helped raise them too. He had a great love of fixing automobiles and would help anyone who asked. Another love was the pets took in and cared for. Bingo was a favorite pastime. David is survived by his wife, Gloria; five sons, James (Cindy) Roen of Fond du Lac, Dale (Special Friend Alice Spear) Roen of Fond du Lac, LCDR Ret. Ron (Shannon) Roen of Bellevue, NE, David (Special Friend Brenda Domke) Roen of DePere, WI, and Michael (Pamela) Roen of Fond du Lac, 19 grandchildren, Katie, Matthew, Sandra, Ashley, Amanda, Joe, Alyce, Alex, Elizabeth, Frances, Daniel, Tyler, Skylee, Natasha, Destinee, Desiree, Dustin, Derek, and Dylan, great-grandchildren Deshantay, Jayden, and David. He is further survived by two brothers, Gerald "Buzz" (Pat) Roen of Weyauwega, WI, and Donald Roen of Fond du Lac, two sisters, Marion (Eddie) Cole of Elberton, GA, and Bev Burnett of Oshkosh, a brother-in-law, Ambrose "Andy" Sabel of Fond du Lac, a sister-in-law, and Susie Roen Schumacher of Eldorado, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lloyd "Butch" Roen, a sister, Marilyn Sabel, a brother-in-law, Eugene Burnett, two sisters-in-law, Lucille and Marcie Roen, and two grandchildren, Jason and Lorra Roen.
Visitation for David Roen will be on Monday, September 14, 2009, from 4 to 8 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and on Tuesday, September 15th from 9 to 10:30 am at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am at the funeral home. The Rev. Jennifer Dawson will officiate and burial will be in Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery. The family would like to thank Hospice Hope for helping David through his transition of life to the peace of his passing, and to the caretakers who worked tirelessly with Dave until the time of his passing.
