David E. Knutson, 62, of Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010 after a 6-month struggle with brain cancer. He was born in Fond du Lac on December 11, 1947, the son of Ernest and Shirley Bock Knutson. He was a 1966 graduate of L. P. Goodrich High School and a 1978 graduate of MPTC. Dave was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving from 1967-1969. On November 29, 1969 he married Merinda Wiegert. They recently celebrated 40 years of marriage. He has been employed at Giddings & Lewis, Damrow, Gilson, Oshkosh Truck, Fox Lake Correctional Institute and retired in 2004 as a correctional officer from Kettle Moraine Correctional Institute after 25 years of service. Dave was a member of Church of Peace - U.C.C., having volunteered at the annual bazaar. He also was a member of Trier-Puddy American Legion Post No.75 serving on the board of directors and was active member of its color guard. Dave volunteered driving veterans to medical appointments. He felt honored to honor those who served our country. Dave was an active member of the Oakfield Conservation Club; he served three years as a director. He was also a member of Light House Anglers and a volunteer for Walleye Weekend and EAA. Dave was an avid fisherman and hunter. SURVIVORS: his wife, Merinda Knutson, Fond du Lac; a daughter, Dawn (Paul) Mansand their daughters, Grace and Emma of Fort Atkinson; a son, Shawn of Fond du Lac. Dave is further survived by two sisters, Judi (Dave) Faubel and Janet (Fritz) Brandt; one brotherMike (Athanasia) Knutson; two sisters-in-law, Barb (Ron) Langacker and Melita (Jane) Wiegert; two brothers-in-law, Armon Wiegert and Ron Wiegert; his mother-in-law, LydiaWeigert; his godmother and aunt, Lennora Morris; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Henry Wiegert; one niece.
VISITATION: Friends may call on Thursday, June 17, 2010 from 4 to 8 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home. FUNERAL: Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Reverend James F. D. Martin will officiate. Entombment will follow at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park. Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75 will conduct military services at the mausoleum.
