David J. "Dave" Ottery

David J. "Dave" Ottery, of Fond du Lac, passed away, Sunday, July 20, 2008, at home after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Dave was born on February 14, 1929, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, the son of the late George T. and Angelique M. (Senecal) Ottery. Dave attended Edison School in the Town of Empire, Roosevelt Junior High and graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1947. Dave enlisted with the United States Army and proudly served his country from 1947 through 1948. He then attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). On June 11, 1955, he married the love of his life, Darlene A. "Dee" Bingen at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fond du Lac, WI. Dave worked at Mills Fleet Farm from its infancy through the expansion as manager for 31 years before retiring. Dave was an active member of St. Mary's (now Holy Family) parish, including membership on the parish council, Eucharistic Ministry, and served on the Building and Grounds Committee. He also was a member of the Noon Rotary Club, Elks Lodge #57, South Hills Golf and Country Club, Knights of Columbus Council #664, and with his wife, established a scholarship for the School of Nursing in their name at Marian College (now Marian University). Dave's favorite hobbies were riding his bicycle in the country, reading, gardening, and traveling. Dave is survived by his loving wife, Dee; his only child, Angela (Tom) Doyle of Aurora, IL and his grandson, Ian David Doyle. He is also survived by his brother, George H. (Elaine) Ottery and sisters-in-law, Mary Bingen and Joyce Ottery, both of Fond du Lac, and nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents and a nephew George Ottery Jr. preceded him in death.



Visitation for David J. "Dave" Ottery will be on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, from 10 am to 12 pm at Holy Family Church, 271 4th Street Way, Fond du Lac. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 pm at the church. The Rev. Victor Capriolo will officiate. Cremation has taken place. The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Mary's Springs High School, 255 County Road, K, Fond du Lac, 54935, or Marian University, 45 S. National Avenue, Fond du Lac 54935.
