David J. Peebles

David J. Peebles, Sr., 82, of 787 County Highway V, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 8, 2005. He was born September 1, 1923, in Fond du Lac, the son of Herbert G. and Alice Tobin Peebles. He lived his early years on the family homestead in Peebles, which was named after his great grandfather, Ezra Peebles. He attended Fond du Lac Catholic Schools, including St. Joseph's, and was an alumni member of the T.P.U. Dave proudly served in the 391st AAA BN, Battery C during World War II and was honorably discharged in December of 1945. Dave was a charter member of Bohlman-Grimes VFW Post #1904, and a former member of Eagles Aerie #270. He was a machinist for 44 years and later retired from Oshkosh Truck. On September 7, 1946, he was united in marriage to Audrey Deitte at St. Louis Church in Fond du Lac. Together they raised 13 children, his bakers dozen. David was an avid fisherman with a special reef on Lake Winnebago named after him, a hunter of all woods, and a true lover of the great outdoors, which he was proud to instill into all of his children. He was a devoted Catholic and had a special love for all of his many dogs. He was a true fan of all sporting events, especially at the high school level, which most of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren participated and participate in and he himself was proficient in such sports as Golden Gloves boxing, basketball, speed skating, and track. Dave will always and sadly be missed by all of his family and friends. His family will be forever thankful for the time we had with him and will always celebrate his life.Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Audrey, eight daughters, Karen (Jim) Skarda of Malone, Margaret (Bob) Fields of Fond du Lac, Katy (BJ) Havlik of Neenah, Alice (Scott) Mulholland of Taycheedah, Sue (Tim) Smith of Mt. Calvary, Ann (Joe) Wettstein of Fond du Lac, Lisa (Ralph) Fields of Mt. Calvary, and Lori Peebles of Fond du Lac, five sons, David J. (Sharon) Peebles Jr. of Fond du Lac, Michael (Mary) Peebles of St. Peter, Thomas Peebles of Fond du Lac, John (Chris) Peebles of Oshkosh, and Mark (Julie) Peebles of Byron. He is further survived by 29 beloved grandchildren, Daniel, James, Keri, David III, Shari, Patti, John, Michael, David, Patrick, Robert, Jenny, Billie Jo, Bobbi Jean, James, Ali, Peter, Jacob, Scott, Shawn, Maggie, Jordan, Jennifer Jo, Joey, Kelly, Ashley, Faith, Courtney, Matthew, and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Jane (Clifford) Chase of Cantonment, FL, and Kathleen Knueppel of Fond du Lac, and a brother, George Peebles of Kaukauna, innumerable nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. His parents, a brother, Sherman, infant sisters Virginia and Helen, beloved granddaughter, Angela Fields, and many other special relatives and friends preceded him in death.



Visitation for Mr. David J. Peebles, Sr. will be on Wednesday, October 12, 2005, from 3 to 9 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Thursday, October 13, 2005, at 9:45 am from Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. Edward Sippel will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Mr. Peebles' name. Additional information and guest book may be found at www.ueckerwitt.com
