David J. Schmidt

David John Schmidt, age 77 of 324 East Harborview Drive, Fond du Lac, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on August 17, 1936 in Fond du Lac, the son of Nathan H. and Laura M. Klawitter Schmidt. David was a graduate of Fond du Lac High School, Class of 1955. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He married Janet M. Altman on September 3, 1960. He graduated from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1962. He started working at Combination Door at the age of 16 and after college worked in time study, and sales and marketing becoming owner and president in 1972 and CEO in 1978 retiring in 2013. He was a member of Church of Our Saviour Evangelical (corner of 9th and Main), South Hills Country Club, Fond du Lac Elks Lodge No. 57 B.P.O.E., Fond du Lac Yacht Club, Ducks Unlimited, NRA, Walleyes for Tomorrow, Wisconsin Waterfowlers, a past member of Fond du Lac Noon Rotary, and the Ocean Reef Club, Ocean Reef Racquet Club, and the Auxiliary Coast Guard in Key Largo, Florida. David was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed golf, tennis, playing bridge and sheep head and making knives.SURVIVORS: In addition to his wife Janet of 53 years he is survived by three children, Dan (Pat) Schmidt, Fond du Lac, Linda (Skip Abbott) Quartaro, Waukesha, and Donna (Dave) Whealon, Fond du Lac; nine grandchildren, Daniel(Morgan) and Chris Schmidt, Maddie and Kelly Quartaro, Sam, Paige and Rex Whealon, Walter and Lauren Abbott; two sisters, Bev (Ty) Howard and Joan Hitt, both of Denver, CO; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Nadine Balchinas.



VISITATION: The visitation will be held from 4:00 "“ 7:00 PM on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again on Monday from 10:00 "“ 11:00 AM at the church. FUNERAL: The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 10, 2014 at Church of Our Saviour Evangelical, 363 South Main Street with Rev. Matthew Agee officiating. Entombment will follow in the All Faith Garden Mausoleum, Rienzi Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dave's memory to the Fond du Lac Area Foundation "The J Fund".Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
