David S. De Marco, 79, of Fond du Lac, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. He was born in West Bend on February 17, 1942, to Samuel and Valeria De Mark. On August 22, 1970, David married Ellen Westover in Waukau, Wis.
David was an artist achieving a bachelor’s degree in art education from UW - Oshkosh in 1969 and later a master’s in fine arts from UW - Madison. He went on to teach high school and elementary art in the North Fond du Lac school system. David retired in 1992 due to heath issues. Nevertheless, he missed his students and the teaching. After retiring, David’s former students would contact him, praising him for being a teacher that made a difference in their lives.
David’s focus in college and postgraduate work was in jewelry, photography, and ceramics. He later began painting in watercolor entering and being accepted into many juried shows. David was a former member of The Midwest Watercolor Society and a current member of the National Watercolor Society. His work was published in “The Best of Watercolor” and “Best of Watercolor Painting Texture”.
David and his wife, Ellen, loved sailing on Lake Winnebago with family and friends for many years. They absolutely treasured family get-togethers and spending time with their grandchildren. David enjoyed being outside and gardening, then afterwards, coming in for wine, pizza, and music to relax for the evening.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen; daughter, Roxanne (Paul) Holton of Homestead, Wis.; son, Anthony (Katie) De Marco of Johnsburg; five grandchildren, Kimberly Grailer of Green Bay, Valerie and Donny Jo Grailer, both of Florence, Wis., and Silas and Adrian De Marco, both of Johnsburg; four great-grandchildren, Ely Marefke of Florence, Lilah and August Weise of Green Bay, and Victoria Friend stationed at Scott Air Force Base in St. Clair County, Ill; and one great-great-grandchild, Ryder Friend, of St. Clair County. He is further survived by two brothers, Dr. Ronald (Ann) De Mark of Manitowoc and Michael De Mark of St. Cloud Minn.; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam, and Val, formerly of Florence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Shriners Hospital, and/or Holy Family Catholic Community.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 271 4th St. Way, in Fond du Lac. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM with entombment in Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery to follow the service.
