June 16, 1937 — August 18, 2016

David L. Westphal, age 79, of Fond du Lac, WI, passed from his earthly body to his heavenly home on August 18, 2016 after a long struggle with Prostate cancer and Postherpetic neuralgia. Dave was born on June 16, 1937 in Marion, WI, to Herman and Linda (Schmidt) Westphal. He was baptized into faith on August 5, 1937 and confirmed on March 18, 1951. He attended New London High School with the Class of 1955.

In 1956 he started for Bordens in New London. In 1962 he transferred to Galloway West which later became Waterford and Saputo where he retired in 1999. Dave was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac, WI, where he served on the counting and usher teams. On May 24, 1958 Dave was united in marriage with Janet “Jan” Eckhart at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London, WI.

Dave is survived by his loving wife Janet “Jan” Westphal; a son Kevin (Patti) Westphal; a daughter Lori (Kurt) Hardie; six grandchildren, Melissa Hardie, Caleb Westphal, Kelly (fiance Calvin Grover) Hardie, David (Katie) Hardie, Seth Westphal, and Bethany Westphal. “Papa” to his three great-grandchildren, Jacob Krause, Breyden Hardie, and Emilee Grover. His siblings, Eleanor Gullickson of Appleton, Carol Rogers of Neenah, Carolyn Rhoden of Franksville, Milyn (Judy) Westphal of Appleton; his mother-in-law, Pearl Reetz of New London; sister-in-law, Judy (David) Mundt of Appleton and Graf, MO; his uncle, Raymond Schmidt of Split Rock; his aunts, Helen Krueger of Clintonville, and Charlotte Schmidt of Juneau; his godsons, Scott Rogers, Dean Steingraber, Mark Gitter, Mark Jones, Caleb Westphal, and David Hardie; also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

David is preceded in death by his father Herman and mother Linda; his siblings, Arlyn (Charlotte) Westphal, Betty Loeffler, Donald Westphal, and William Westphal; father-in-law, Earl Eckhart; step-father-in-law, Rueben Reetz; brothers-in-law, Russell Gullickson, Eugene Rogers, and William Rhoden; also many aunts, uncles, and nephews.

Dave will be remembered for his little “grey pail” picking up his law. Climbing and trimming his trees to perfection. Spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed going to flea markets and rummage sales adding Borden and clocks to his collection. When health permitted cruising in our red Corvette and walking five miles a day, six days a week. Most of all, Dave will be remembered for his sense of humor, gift of storytelling, and always being there to help anyone who needed him.
