Delbert O. Waldschmidt was called home to heaven on September 6, 2017 at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee. He was born September 11, 1933 to Walter and Emma Waldschmidt in the Town of Forest, Wisconsin. Shortly after, on October 1, 1933, God claimed him as his own through baptism at St. Paul Lutheran Church in the Town of Forest. He later was confirmed on March 30, 1947 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac.
On July 14, 1957, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Maertz. Throughout their marriage of 55 years, the Lord blessed them with six children Dean (Julie), Steven, Carrie (Mike Struck), Richard (Susan), Jan (Mike Krug), and Paul (Beth). The love of his life, Lorraine, was called home to heaven on December 15, 2012.
He was further preceded in death by his son, Steven, his parents, two brothers-Vernon and Donald, and a sister, Lorraine.
His children, eighteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, sister, Lucille (Eugene Reitz), brother, Howard (Beatrice), brother-in-law, Carl Maertz sister-in-law, Marilyn Waldschmidt, nieces, nephews, and many other friends and family are all awaiting a grand reunion around Jesus’ throne of glory.
Delbert served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac where he served on multiple church boards. In addition, he loved his community, dedicating many years to the Kiwanis Club of Fabulous Fond du Lac heading their fundraising activities at Walleye Weekend and the annual September Pork Fest. He was the owner of Waldschmidt Burial Vaults and concluded his work career at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and Overnight Livery Service. Delbert valued his friendships made through his church, work life, Kiwanis and the Legion Hall.
Keeping his family close was a priority to Delbert which lead him to establish a tradition of weekly family steak nights. His grandchildren were especially close to his heart, whether he was beaming with pride at his grandsons or taking the opportunity to steal a kiss from his granddaughters.
Three of those grandchildren, Rev. Daniel Waldschmidt, Rev. Steven Waldschmidt and Rev. Joshua Olson will share God’s Word at his funeral service. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 55 N. Prairie Road on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 2:00 PM with visitation from 12:30 PM till the time of service.
