Demetrios A. “Taki” Voulgaris, 84, of Fond du Lac, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born July 1, 1932, in Athens, Greece, the son of Anthony and Eleni Mologianis Voulgaris. On March 4, 1964, he married Sofia Harokopos in Rhodes, Greece. Taki came to the United States in May of 1974 and his family followed shortly afterwards on December 22nd of the same year. Before moving to the US, Taki played professional soccer and worked as a mason. He was formerly employed by Tolibia Cheese from 1974 to 1992. After retirement, he and his wife ran the Oasis Restaurant from 1994 to 2009. He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and the Ahepa Society.
Surviving is his wife, Sofia, two sons, Tony (Mary Schmid) of Van Dyne, and Kosta of Appleton, two daughters, Eleni Voulgaris of Fond du Lac, and Tina (Nick) Mastrogiannis of Greece. He is further survived by five grandchildren, John, Alexandra, Demetri, Demetri, and Michael. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews living in America and Greece. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Mary Voulgaris, Georgia Maheras, and Litsa Nanou, and one brother, Phedon.
Visitation for Demetrios A. “Taki” Voulgaris will be on Sunday, January 15, 2017, from 2 to 5 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Avenue, Fond du Lac. Trisagion services will be held at 4:30 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Visitation will also be on Monday January 16, 2017, from 10 to 11 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Funeral services will be held on January 16, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 198 N. Macy Street, Fond du Lac. The Rev. Ted Trifon will officiate and burial will be in Rienzi Cemetery. Additional information and guest book may be found at www.ueckerwitt.com.
