DeNyse M. Peterson, 86, formerly of 183 14th Street, and currently a resident of 68 Stone Castle Drive, Fond du Lac, died peacefully on Sunday, January 2, 2011, at the Hospice Home of Hope with her children, Steve and Penny by her side. She had suffered a stroke on December 23rd. She was born April 24, 1924, in Neenah, the daughter of Albert and Pearl Remmel Parker. On September 11, 1947, she married Gordon L. "Pete" Peterson in Neenah. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1994. DeNyse was a member of Holy Family Parish. She was a 1942 graduate of Menasha High School. Prior to her retirement in June of 2001, DeNyse was employed for 30 years by the Fond du Lac School District as an Instructional Assistant in Franklin, Chegwin, and Elizabeth Waters schools. Whether helping children from difficult home environments or helping kids who just had trouble with their ABC's, DeNyse's caring nature and genuine concern positively impacted the lives of hundreds of area children. Surviving is a daughter, Penelope "Penny" Selling of New York, a son, Steven J. Peterson and his wife, Lisa Washa of Fond du Lac, four grandchildren, Shaun (Melissa) Peterson of Fond du Lac, Joshua (Beth) Peterson of Madison, Lindsay (Derek) Gerner of Fond du Lac, and Noah Selling of New York City, six great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Gerner, Chase Gerner, and Jackson Gerner, all of Fond du Lac, Oscar Peterson of Madison, Landon Peterson of Fond du Lac, and Beth Anderson of Elmhurst, IL. She is further survived by a brother, Thomas (Sue) Parker of Waunakee, a sister-in-law, JoAnne Parker of Neenah, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Margaret Buckley, and brother, Daniel Parker, and a brother-in-law, William Buckley.
Visitation for DeNyse M. Peterson will be on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, from 4 to 8 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and on Thursday, January 6th, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 678 Western Avenue, Fond du Lac. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 at the church on Thursday. The Reverend Luke Strand will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. She took great joy in her family and we will miss her so.
